en·nui                          /änˈwē/                           noun
a feeling of listlessness and dissatisfaction arising           from a lack of occupation or excitement.

inside_ennui_Gallery_taosThe Ennui Gallery was started by 3 Local Taos Artists:
Cisco Velarde, Montserrat Oyanedel Tolmo (Mono),
and Sarah Hart.
All of us came to our particular crafts to escape ennui.
The kind of ennui that comes from having too much time on one’s hands and too little will to find something productive to do.

Cisco feels that art should be made every day as a cornerstone of one’s existence. Good art makes the good days great and the bad days good. He also believes that the younger generation of artists is under-represented in Taos, and should start a revolution to take back art and re-explore the definition of what art is; after all, this generation and the next will continue to create, purchase, and critique art.

ennuiWhen the opportunity arrived to open a gallery with her friends, Sarah Hart was able to get back to her first love, painting. She recently has discovered a new love and great appreciation for copper plate etching.  Ennui Gallery has given her the ability to continue on her dream of being an artist.

Montserrat Onaydel – tolmo-Living in Taos has been a journey in the most diverse sense of the word; however, being around such an amazing group of talented artists and friends (you know who she’s talking about) has changed her perspective on life. Here in the enchanted land of Taos, this Chilean has become a machine of new ideas and projects, with creativity running high in her blood.ennui_room_taos
